We need a serious pay rise to ease the cost of living crisis.
Our industrial action over the next few months will shape our pay and conditions for the next three years.
Here’s everything you need to know.
Four ways you can help:

We need to strike until we win our demands!

The cost of living crisis is making it harder for staff to make ends meet, but the University only ever talks about its own finances. It makes hundreds of millions each year from our work by cutting costs, increasing workloads and keeping our pay as low as possible.
They won’t offer us better or accept our demands without maximum pressure from staff stopping work collectively and shutting down the university. This is the only way we will win our demand for a 20% pay rise (at a minimum) to ease the cost of living crisis, improve our conditions, and stop workloads from getting worse.
NTEU Fightback is a group of union members calling on others to:
- VOTE YES on June 18 to endorse a Protected Action Ballot – register for the meeting here.
- VOTE YES to Strikes / “work stoppages” in the Protected Action Ballot sent to you in early July
What’s wrong with individual work bans?
Strikes are collective stoppages which can shut down the university to create real-world pressure and provide us with safety in numbers. Strikes involve all categories of staff, bring us together, demonstrate our strength and allow us to reclaim our dignity as workers.
Individual work bans put little to no pressure on the University. The proposed bans only involve a minority of staff, are for work outside our position descriptions or outside business hours – meaning the University operates as normal. Staff have also been singled out in the past for bans.
