A mass meeting of NTEU members at Sydney University voted yesterday to fight for a wage claim of 10% + 10% + 5% for the three years of our next enterprise agreement.
Over 300 staff attended the meeting, of who 61% voted in favour of the increase and called on the National Executive of the NTEU to overturn the previous decision stopping branches from demanding more than 20%.
Now we need the NTEU National Executive to agree we can fight for more than the national wage claim of 20%. So your signature is needed on the open letter to the NTEU NE.
With inflation at 3.8% and rising, the cost of rentals rising at 2.5 times the rate of our wages, and tens of thousands of dollars missing from our pay packets due to the below-inflation pay deal in the current EA, 25% is still a modest claim. But it is a big step in our campaign to win back the thousands of dollars we have lost in wages due to skyrocketing prices.
It is also confirmation that members expect and want more from the NTEU leadership. We will need to keep fighting to lift the outrageous cap on wage claims, and we will need to organise serious strike action to win.
Please help us spread the news of this excellent outcome by sharing this article with your colleagues and urging them to sign the open letter below:
