Help increase the USYD pay claim to 25%!

Groceries and rent aren’t getting cheaper. To ease cost of living pressures, our union might fight for significant pay rises.

To do this, we need your help on Thursday 5 March – at the NTEU members’ meeting (1PM Merewether 277 + Zoom)

We will be moving the following UPDATED motion at the NTEU members’ meeting on Thursday 5 March:

MOTION TO INCREASE OUR PAY CLAIM

This meeting of NTEU members at the University of Sydney notes:

– ongoing cost of living pressures, including rents increasing 2.5 times more than wages over the past five years.
– that USYD wages are at least 4.8% behind inflation since the expiry of the last EA. Current inflation is 3.8% and on the rise.
– that management will try to undercut our wage claim so we have to start high
– that the decision taken by the NTEU’s National Council stops branches from raising their pay claim above 20%
– that the NTEU National Executive are able to and have lifted our wage claim in previous rounds.

We therefore:

1. Support an increase to our pay claim as follows:

The agreement will provide a:

– 10% cost of living adjustment pay rise in the first year
– 10% cost of living adjustment pay rise in the second year,
– and either a 5% or CPI (whichever is higher) pay rise in the third year of the agreement

amounting to a total of 25% over the life of the agreement.

2. Directs the NTEU Sydney University Branch President and Branch Committee to write to the National Council and National Executive noting our desire for a 25% pay claim and calling for the restriction preventing this to be overturned.

3. Should the restriction be overturned, the branch will officially raise its pay claim as outlined above.

Moved: Alma Torlakovic
Seconded: Vinil Kumar
